Clearfield to Ogden to Salt Lake City, UT

Wednesday September 8, 2004

5:45am  The next day. I woke up, I crashed out right in front of the Arby's by the highway. I'm glad nobody saw me. I slept on top of this board. It was cool. I went to the Chevron right nearby about 5:30 to take a shit. I'm going to bum a cigarette, wake and bake and get a courtesy ride back to Ogden.

5:55am  I went back to the Chevron and Gerri, the girl working at the Chevron, I asked her, "Hey, you don't have a spare cigarette, by any chance?" She hooked me up with two packs of Kools! I so appreciate it, Gerri. Everybody gets credit, thank you.

Dude, that was just awesome! I got plenty of cigarettes for my train ride!

6:05am  Linda is hooking me up with some gasoline for my stomach for my ride today. I appreciate it, Linda. Everybody gets credit.

6:12am  Not only did I get two packs of cigarettes, I went to the Conoco to get some water. Linda took one look at me and asked me what I was doing. I told her my mission-objectives and she hooked me up with these two hot pockets. They're damn good.

I'm on a roll this morning. I'm going to score a courtesy ride, mark my words.

     6:14am  There's the bus. Let's see if I get a courtesy ride.

6:15am  I asked the bus driver, "Hey, I don't suppose I can get a courtesy ride to Ogden. I don't have any money." He was some old dude and he told me, "You gotta have fare." I pulled out my recorder and told him, "I was just testing you. Your greedy ass failed," and I stepped off the bus, hehe.

                   Teehee.

I wanted to smoke a cigarette anyway. After-meal smoke and then I'll smoke some weed. I'm going to wait for the next bus.

Good things come to those who wait.

6:22am  Here's the bus again. Let's see if I get a courtesy ride.

6:42am  Frank #6107 failed. I appreciate it, greedy ass. Thanks for proving me right and helping me educate the masses.

7:02am  I turned around a saw a bus coming the other way, heading South back to Salt Lake City. I ran across the street and when the bus pulled up I asked the lady, "I don't suppose you would hook me up with a transfer so I can get back to Ogden?" She told me, "Oh no, it'll cost you $1.35. I told her, "Alright, I was just testing you. You failed."

7:10am  I just found out that I am a mere six miles away from Ogden.

7:28am  I'm at the bus stop over by 1800 North and Main Street. I decided if I didn't get a courtesy ride I would just walk another mile until the bus came. I'd just do that until I got a ride.

I'm going to end up walking all the way back to Ogden.

7:32am  Joanne #3001 hooked me up with a courtesy ride back to Ogden. I appreciate it, Joanne. Everybody gets credit, thanks.

8:00am  I told this girl my story. This girl who had walked up to the bus stop right before it got there. I blew her mind. She stared at me the whole time. I'm in downtown Ogden now. I got off the bus and told this guy Hector my stories and he up and hooked me up with a taco! I appreciate it, brother. Everybody gets credit, man. Just like I said.

8:10am  I came to the courthouse next to the park to take a shit, but the bathrooms in the second floor don't have toilets.

9:06am  I am walking down Grant Avenue. I wanted to find out where that store was again. Where I met that guy Dagger yesterday. It's closed or I couldn't find it. Oh yeah, I'm stoned. I'm going to walk to the Union Station and talk to the train drivers.

9:16am  I waked over to the train station. There's a policeman there. They got a good quote in here. It says, "Weld the past to the present to enrich the future." That's kind of cool. It says:

"This monument is a grateful tribute to the builders of America's first trans-continental railroad, completed May 10 of 1869, when the golden spike was driven at Promontory, UT, 53 miles northwest of Ogden.
Dedicated May 10, 1951 to honor those pioneers who built better than they knew and to encourage for all time the same joy of doing.

Utah Pioneers Trails and Landmark Association. Union Pacific Railroad Company. Southern Pacific Railroad Company."

They have other monuments for the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and the Ogden City wall. They're not too interesting.

On the flagpole it says, "On September 11, 2002, the Kiwanis of Ogden donated this flagpole in remembrance of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on America."

10:32am  I was bored. I looked around at the Union Station. I ended up over by the transit center where the all the buses come.

10:44am  I'm about to enter Just Down the Street Cafe. I'm going to get a burrito. Just you watch.

10:45am  Luke is hooking me up with some food. I gave him my gasoline for the stomach line and he said, "Have a seat." Calling the shots, calling the shots.

10:53am  I got hooked up with breakfast. Eggs and bacon.

11:32am  Eric just walked by. I had talked to him yesterday and told him my story. He gave me some cookies.

11:54am  I'm here eating at St. Ann's again. After I finished eating Jim offered me a pie. A fruit pie.

12:32pm  I don't know if I told you or not, but this guy Eric at the St. Ann's told me about this place called Beatnik caddy-corner to, I don't know what caddy-corner means, the Wells Fargo building. I walked around and I couldn't find it. There's a Capricorn's Lair place here. Some metaphysical store. These people should really dig my Aquarian story. I'm going to go and see if I can tell someone my story in there. Let's see if they'll listen to me.

12:43pm  Nope, the Capricorn's Lair is a store of ignorance. I gave this lady my introduction and told her, "If you are willing to listen. I wouldn't want to waste your time." She quickly said, "No."

1:03pm  I've got an update to make. I came back over to the Pioneer plaza by the courthouse. On 25th Street. I saw some big rig truck pull up. Just the cab. It said Brownsville, TX on it. I'm going to wait until the driver comes back and ask him if he'll give me a ride to the truckstop. Let's see if that'll work.

                   Maybe he's going West. I don't know.

The 72, the Express bus going to Salt Lake, the guy wouldn't give me a courtesy ride. He told me, "You should try the 70."

1:08pm  This greedy ass driving the 70 didn't give me a ride. Everybody gets credit, man.

1:15pm  I'm going to wait for the next bus. If I don't get a courtesy ride I'm going to take a nap in the park. If not, I'll stay awake and go to Salt Lake City.

1:43pm  The 70 driver didn't give me a courtesy ride. I'm going to take a nap in the park. On the grass.

4:08pm I woke up on the grass.

4:13pm  I told you, I just woke up on the grass. Someone goes, "Hey, hey," and called me over there. Kitty Cat smoked me out. She gave me a hit of weed. I appreciate it, Kitty Cat. Everybody gets credit, thanks.

4:37pm  I saw the 70 pull up and I got all my stuff together. The driver didn't give me a courtesy ride, but Mike, some other guy on the bus said, "Don't worry about it," and he paid my fare. I appreciate it, brother.

4:57pm  I'm on the bus on the way down to Salt Lake City. This guy got on the bus and the driver let him take his bike in the back. He was some gay dude wearing a necklace with a peace symbol. I thought, "Cool, I'm definitely going to tell this guy my story." I asked him, "Hey, can I tell you what I'm doing?" He snapped, "No you can't. I'm not interested." I asked him, "Have you always been that ignorant?" He says, "Yes, I have." I told him, "Well, that's a damn shame."

5:28pm  That guy who wouldn't listen to my story earlier just got off the bus. Before he got off he came over and handed me two dollars. He said, "You get what you give," and got off the bus.

Confirmation that I made him think when I asked him, "Hey, have you always been that ignorant?" I'm really hoping he noticed the peace tattoo on the back of my neck.

6:39pm  I'm in Salt Lake City already. I'm going to walk to I80. I just randomly got off the bus by the Taco Time restaurant. There's all these signs everywhere. There's one that says Accomplish and another one that says Hope. Opportunity. Think. Believe. Dream. Dare. Goals. Discover. Wisdom. Vision. Attitude. Quality. Choice. Service. Welcome. Pura Vida. Pure Life.

I walked some more and there's some more. Brilliance. Love. Hope. Peace. Life. Experience. Excellence. Family. Laughter. Listen. Imagine. Possibilities. Sunshine. Dream. Happy. Positive. Attitude. Outstanding. Values. Service. That's about it.

6:42pm  I'm over here on 800 South and State Street. I'm going to go to this taco stand and hit them up for some food.

6:45pm  Ariselis me esta dando gasolina para mi estomago.

6:45pm  Scored at the taco stand.

7:32pm  I followed the signs all the way to highway 80. It goes up a big ramp and turns left. I started cutting across and I'm heading West now. I want to go to a gas station and ask for rides.

I was walking South and I gotta turn around and go North.

Turning on Genesee Avenue. There's some people playing trumpets and trombones.

7:34pm  I'm walking into La Popular Mexican restaurant. I'm going to get me some food.

7:45pm  Lisa en el Popular Mexicana me esta dando gasolina para mi estomago. Te lo agradezco, Lisa. Todo el mundo recibe crédito.

9:03pm  I just got out of the Chapman Library. I'm kind of excited, I don't know. My cute friend Jordan-Rose, this cute girl who I met at Marley Fest. At the fest she had listened to my story and hooked me up with mushrooms. She wrote in an email that she believes in me and stuff.

I gotta walk North to West Temple and turn left. I got directions at the library.

Oh yeah, and when I got directions at the library I told the girl working there my story. She listened to me and laughed through the whole thing at the funny parts. She let me get through it the whole way.

9:51pm  I walked all the way to I80. West Temple to I80. There's no access road to get on the highway, so I have a ways to walk. I don't know what I'm going to do.

10:11pm  I gave up on trying to get on I80. I found a place to camp. Right next to umm, I'll get the name of the place in the morning. Some hotel. There's a vacant building next door. I'm going to crash out.

Okay, I'm going to crash at my little camp here. I'm going to smoke some weed. Smoke some cigarettes. I ate a fruit pie. I'm going to smoke some weed and go to sleep.

Next day..
